To address the unemploymentproblem of the youths by creating job opportunities in abroad, Bureau of Manpower, Employment & Training (BMET) was formed in1976 under the initiative of’ the then President Shahid Ziaur Rahman. Since its inception until 1984, the Bureau has arranged overseas employment for significant number of workers in different categories. More than 700 private recruiting agencies are working in the field of manpower export under regulatory control of BMET. The Bureau issues emigration on clearance against all demands approved by the Ministry. Moreover, the BMET is working as the regulatory body in all activities related to manpower export including renewal of licenses of the recruiting agents.
There are 12 Technical Training Institutes under the Bureau to offer trainings in different trades for overseas job seekers.
The field offices under the BMET:
21 District Employment & Manpower offices (under revenue account);
11 Technical Training Centre and 1 (one) Marine Engineering Training Institute and 3(three) Trainee Training offices (only administration);
21 district Employment & Manpower Offices (under development account); (activities of these offices are terminated due expiry of tenure of the projects)
4 Divisional Employment & Manpower Offices (under development account); (these offices are closed due expiry of tenure of projects under development- head).
