To put more emphasis on the overseas employment sector, the Government established the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment on 20 December 2001 as part of fulfilling its political commitment.

The main objectives of the Ministry interalia are to ensure welfare of the expatriate workers and increase of the overseas employment. The Ministry has been rendering ceaseless efforts in enhancing the flow of remittance and to provide equal opportunity for the people of all areas of the country for overseas employment and ensuring overall welfare of the migrant workers.
